Litter Programs
-
Adopt-A-Spot
Individuals, organizations and businesses may adopt a designated area within the County for a period lasting at least one year. Throughout that time, group members come together to keep their spot clean, litter free and beautiful.
-
Annual Litter Cleanup
Local volunteers have removed over 7 million pounds of trash from County roadsides and illegal dump sites during the Annual County-wide Litter Cleanup over the last 4 decades. Each year volunteers give their time and energy to collect trash in areas where it would have otherwise polluted the environment.
-
Cigarette Litter Prevention
Did you know that cigarette butts are the most littered item in the U.S.? According to research done by Keep America Beautiful, many of the same people who would never litter a plastic bottle or food wrapper simply don’t think twice about tossing cigarette butts on the ground.
-
Great American Cleanup
The Keep America Beautiful® Great American Cleanup® is the nation’s largest community improvement program, which takes place annually in an estimated 15,000 community events nationwide. Click here to register for a Hampton Roads cleanup through askHRgreen.org.
-
Litter Cleanup Report Form
Use this form to report your cleanup data for any cleanup activity. We use the data to apply for grants to fund more litter cleanup activities.
-
Litter League
The Litter League helps individuals, families, organizations and businesses to perform cleanups in their local areas. Litter League kits provide groups with everything they need to perform a cleanup, including a 5-gallon bucket, litter grabbers, safety vests, disposable gloves and trash bags.
-

James City County puts safety as the number one priority! As a participant, you are volunteering at your own risk. Please review and (digitally) sign the required Safety Guidelines and Waiver before participating in a litter cleanup.
